Korean

The Department of Transnational Asian Studies teaches Korean through the fourth year of study, with courses focused on specific topics such as business and current issues. Rice awards the Certificate in Language and Intercultural Communication in Korean.

Korean language courses can count toward the requirements for the Asian Studies major—including both the Transnational Asian Studies and Language concentrations—and fulfill the language requirement for the Linguistics major.

Course Sequence

Korean course sequence. Language Learners Track 141 to 142 to 263 to 264 to 301 to 302. From 302 it branches to 332 Korean through visual media, or 319 Medical Korean, or 401 Current Issues in Korea, or 402 Business Korean. There is also a Summer study abroad track for Rice in Korea that has a prerequisite of 264 that includes classes 321 and 330.
